vegas wedding invitation kit

Vegas weddings have always had the negative association of “last minute” & a drunken mistake that’ll lead to a quick divorce. But what about the inherit romance of getting married in the city of lights? Is having a non-traditional wedding so bad? Here I created a wedding invitation suite for a planned destination wedding in Vegas at The Little White Chapel that plays on the inherit kitsch of the location, & brings in imagery of Vegas signage & gambling (specifically poker) as the city is known for.

ART DIRECTION: Soonduk Krebs

One of my major inspirations for the wedding card suite was Vegas signage. So I began by researching & pulling inspiration from A Little White Chapel, the iconic “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign, & other signs & iconography that persist across multiple of these kinds of Vegas chapels. What I ended up appropriating as imagery were hearts & ribbons from the Chapel signage, the circle font style & the star/sparkle shape from the Vegas sign, & that mix of script with non-script typography that was found across the board in the Vegas signage I pulled as inspiration.

After the process of pulling inspiration, I began sketching. I knew I wanted a “logo” that I could use throughout thats announced “We’re getting married” which pulled from Vegas signage, as well as early in the process knew I wanted a die cut on either the save the date or main invitation that was shaped off of the signage of A Little White Chapel.

As shown, I originally played with gold & blues as other colors to be used in the palette. I eventually opted for a sickly sweet Valentines color palette to add to the kitschy feel of the suite.

What became of the “logo” was the dual heart image with a ribbon banner running through that appropriated the circle type style & star/sparkle shape from the “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign. An alternative without the type & stars was also used throughout in ares where the type would be to small to be readable as a secondary version of the image.

The full wedding suite included a trifold invitation with a circle pattern appropriated from that circle style text, with a tear off RSVP. The RVSP included a pun that doubles as saving a seat at the reception, with the idea of saving a seat at a poker table. The folded card is tied with two ribbons with opposing poker ship shaped stickers to denote if you are coming to the wedding or not. “I fold” for no, & “All in” for yes, once again pulling in poker language in the spirit of Vegas being know for gambling. The RSVP card also includes an area to choose what meat, or lack of meat, you would like to have as your meal for the reception. Additionally in the suite, you receive a directions card that includes a close up map graphic with the locations of the Chapel marked.
